NewsA Message from ParentLink: In
the ten years ParentLink has been in existence, we have seen not only an
explosion in the numbers of children effected by Autism Spectrum Disorders, but
also commensurate growth in support, information and resources. As most of you
know from email updates that we regularly send, on any given day of the week,
you all have a choice of meetings, presentations and workshops offered by
various organizations throughout the state. It’s impossible to attend
everything, and as a result, we have experienced very low attendance at monthly
ParentLink meetings. We
have had to reevaluate the way in which ParentLink can continue to be of
service. ParentLink has in the past been able to provide an opportunity for
families to network and meet others with common issues. We are hoping that by
reducing the number of meetings to four per year (September, November, March
& June) our turnout will increase thus making fewer meetings more meaningful
and productive for everyone. At the same time we will discontinue our snail-mail
newsletter and focus instead on our website and email updates as a clearinghouse
for information about local resources and events relevant to our members. This
will eliminate the need for yearly membership dues. New members can obtain
membership applications through the ParentLink website, and submit a one-time
fee to be included on our email list. Donations to keep us up and running on the
‘net will also gladly be accepted. In
a way, these changes signal a new era in autism awareness in our communities and
schools. Information and resources are more readily available. That’s a good
thing. We look forward to seeing you in the future, and we’ll be in touch via the internet. Best, Susan
& Kay *************************************************************************The 5th Annual Walk F.A.R for NAAR will be on June 4, 2006Please
make sure you have this date on your calendar. This year, ParentLink is urging
each of its members to get involved with this wonderful fundraising event by
forming individual Walk Teams. Your team can be your friends & family
members walking together for your child, or you can organize your community,
school or workplace as a team. It’s easy and fun, and very worthwhile. For
more information, call Valerie Zygmont at 203-552-8980 or email
